Hair Restoration

What Is Hair Restoration?
`Hair loss is a common complaint for millions of men and women. Men can start losing hair as early as their 20’s and continue to lose hair into middle age. Women can also suffer from thinning hair with age. There are medical and surgical treatment of hair loss. First and foremost, a physician must determine the cause of the hair loss as there are several medical conditions that may lead to hair loss. Medical treatment with finasteride (Propecia™) or minoxidil (Rogaine™) can be prescribed either as a first step or as part of combined treatment with hair restoration procedures.
Hair Restoration Procedures
Hair restoration (also known as hair transplantation) is a procedure to transfer hair from areas of the scalp which do not lose hair (usually the back of the head) to areas of the scalp that are thinning or have lost hair completely. This procedure has evolved significantly since the old days of unnatural hairlines and obvious appearance of plugs. Our method of hair restoration produces a natural hairline and natural hair placement. There are two ways to obtain hairs from the back of the scalp (“donor hairs”): strip technique and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). The strip technique has the advantage of producing excellent grafts but the disadvantage of leaving a scar, which is usually hidden and can only be seen if the patient wears the hair short. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) does not leave a linear scar and thus is a good fit for patients with short hair. However, it is more time and labor intensive. The procedure is done under local anesthesia. The hairs are separated and prepared for implantation. Areas to be implanted are prepared with local anesthesia. Hair can be transplanted to the head but also to the face to add facial hair/beard/moustache and eyebrows. Our expertise allows us to create natural appearing and permanent facial and brow hair.
