Ketamine infusion therapy uses ketamine, a potent anesthetic and psychotropic pain reliever, administered by IV to treat certain types of chronic pain and psychiatric conditions not responsive to classic therapies.
How Does Ketamine Aid with Pain Relief?
Ketamine works by blocking specific pain receptors in your brain. At the same time, it recalibrates some of the nerve cells in your brain and spine. This interaction makes it more effective at reducing some types of pain than others.
Dr. Farnad uses ketamine infusion for the following types of pain:
Migraines
Fibromyalgia
Traumatic spinal cord injury
Complex regional pain syndrome
Some types of cancer-related back pain
Certain kinds of nerve and back pain
What to Expect from the Treatments
Most patients can expect that treatments will include 2-to-4 hour sessions that can be spread over a few days. Due to the complexity of Chronic Pain management, pain regimens are very individualized to the patient. The majority of my patients report feeling effects within the first day or so and are recommended to continue their regular care.
How many Treatments will I need?
Everyone’s body is different and responds differently to the treatment. However, you can usually expect to have between 1-3 sessions.
How Quick will Results Appear?
Smaller, noticeable results can be seen within just a few days, but usually after 3-4 weeks the most recognizable results appear.
